LOOK UP

I seem to remember these words in an old song heard long ago, “Look up, look up, and face your Maker, before Gabriel blows his horn.”  Another line said, “Look down, look down that lonesome road before you travel on.”

There you have it. Either you look up or you look down.  It seems we receive more and more request s for prayer as loved ones or friends face the unexpected in life. At least two friends are having MRI’s.  What will they reveal? Anxious moments as we wait for the results.  Unexpected surgery, how will it go?  Will all the cancer be removed?  Your e-mail, and mine, is filled with requests for prayer.  I pause to thank the Lord that my loved ones and friends trust me with their requests.  I stop often during the day to pray for that request that just came in.

I read a prayer this morning that hit the spot for me.  It is in a daily devotional  written be Michael Youseff.   May it give you something to think about and perhaps be a blessing to you.

“Father, I can see my way through the cloud that has gathered around me.  I know that You are near because Your Word tells me that You will never leave me.  Move close to my broken heart, O Lord, and tell me how to worship You in this hour of need.”

Today ---------------------- Out loud and purpose Thank and Praise the Lord that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom. 8:39)   Have a TERRIFIC DAY !!!

GOD DOES NOT KNOW

Years ago we listened to Rex Humbard’s radio broadcast from the church in Ohio. Then the service was on TV.  I recently heard him preach on TV.  He said there are four things that God does not know.

1. God does not know one sin He does not hate.

2. God does not know one sinner that He does not love.

3. God does not know a better plan of salvation and forgiveness than the one He has given (John 3:16).

4. God does not know a better time for you to be saved than right now.

Today ----------------------- Out loud and on purpose Thank and Praise the Lord for His unchangeable love expressed through Jesus Christ.  Have a TERRIFIC DAY!!!

BIRTHDAY

Tomorrow we celebrate the birthday of our country – 227 years.  Not old when compared to other countries. In this brief time the United States has risen to the top and emerged as the leading nation in the world.

I am reminded that the Psalmist said, Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”   I am thankful for the millions in our country whose God is the Lord.

God gives us instructions in His Word as to how we should live in order to insure the blessings of God on our nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14(NIV) “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.”

The instruction is clear and easily understood.  The choice is ours.

Today ------------------------------ Out loud and on purpose Thank and Praise the Lord for the God who cares about people.     Have a happy and safe FOURTH and have a TERRIFIC WEEKEND.               Next PTL – Monday.

EVERY DAY

I’m sure you are aware of the fact that every day of our lives we have to make choices.  The choices we make determine the course of our lives.  How much thought goes into the making of choices?  Some people make snap choices while others take more time to think about it.

God sets before us the choice of right and wrong. We could call this obedience or disobedience of the rules of life.  Our choice has consequences. Obedience brings the blessing of God.  Disobedience brings the wrath of God.

A song written by Philip Doddridge has these words that pertain to choices.

“O happy day that fixed my choice  On Thee, my Saviour and my God!  Well might this glowing heart rejoice,  And tell its raptures all abroad.

Happy day,  happy day,  When Jesus washed my sins away!  He taught me how to watch and pray, and live rejoicing every day;  Happy day,  happy day,  When Jesus washed my sins away.”

Today ------------------- Out loud and purpose Thank and Praise the Lord that He guides us in the choices we make.  Have a TERRIFIC DAY !!!

THE ADVERSARY

This is on my mind and I hope you will allow me to do a little preaching and meddling.  Twice in the last week and many times in the last few years I have received the e-mail requesting that I read it, sign it and send it on.  I refer to the e-mail that says the atheist organization of Madelyn Murray O’Hare has a petition before the FCC that if passed would eliminate most religious programs from television.      There is no such petition.  Never has been.

Back in the 50’ & 60’s the same thing was done by some of the radio and television preachers. I remember that I worked hard to get petitions signed and mailed to one of these preachers.  He was to deliver them along with others to the FCC.

These are made to sound authentic with a petition number and official sounding signatures.   The truth is this is all false, a hoax.  Check it on Snopes. Call the FCC. Check it with your Congressman.

Bill Murray, Madelyn’s son, has been born again and is an ordained minister.  He  tells about how they used to get this going again when things slacked off and they wanted to stir up controversy.  He says this is a way our adversary, the devil, works to divert Christians and tie up their time and keep them from doing God’s work.

May I encourage you to let your friends know that this e-mail petition thing is a hoax. Don’t pass it on.  Help stop it. Check it out for yourself if you doubt what I’ve said.

Today ------------------ Out loud and on purpose Thank and Praise the Lord for the opportunity to get the truth out and stop the devil in his tracks on this issue.  Have TERRIFIC DAY !!!

PRAYER REQUEST.   My niece, who lives next door, is scheduled to have knee replacement at 10:00 this morning.  Her husband has just been taken to the hospital by ambulance with a possible stroke.  Prayers appreciated.  Bless you.

NAMES

The names of people coming into our minds bring back memories associated with that person.  I recall the names of one or two teachers who made a lasting impact on me.  A pastor was an inspiration and an encourager.  Mother (dad died when I was 7) hung in there and made a living for her children.  She set an example of faithfulness in going to church and in trusting the Lord.

Through the years the Lord has put many people in my life that gave me something worthwhile.   But there is a name that is above all names. The name of Jesus.  Frederick Whitfield wrote the words of this song.

OH, HOW I LOVE JESUS

There is a name I love to hear, I love to sing its worth;  It sounds as music in my ear, The sweetest name on earth.

It tells me of a Saviour’s love,  Who died to set me free;  It tells me of His precious blood, The sinner’s perfect plea.

It tells me what my Father has in store for every day;  And though I tread a dark-some path,  Yields sunshine all the way.

It tells of One whose loving heart Can feel my deepest woe,  Who in each sorrow bear a part,  that none can bear below.

Oh, how I love Jesus,  Oh, how I love Jesus,  Oh, how I love Jesus,  Because He first loved me.

Today ---------------------- Out loud and on purpose Thank and Praise the Lord that we can love Jesus because He first loved us.   Have a TERRIFIC DAY !!!
